The danger of a single story  
This talk by novelist Chimamanda Adichie on the importance of stories -- and the danger of telling only a single story about any given group of people -- is fabulous, and well worth time it takes to listen to, for writers and readers both. (via [info]stina_leicht.)

And we all have to be on the lookout for times when, not even realizing it, we've internalized a single story about same.
