From the Girls Horse Club, Horses: My One Safe Place. Something about this essay reminded me of what it felt like to retreat to my own childhood escape places--to my own magical horse (imaginary, in my case), my notebooks, my private corner of the basement, and especially my stories.
Horses won’t tell my secrets, won’t yell at me, and obviously can’t ground me. I feel safe and taken care of with them. I know I can trust them. Horses are my safe haven. I know that they understand.
Speaking of the Girls Horse Club, my perfect horse is Silver Cloud Dancer. (Only shows up if you allow popups.) Who's yours?

Phoo. They don't have an option for the breed I want to use.

Cool site. Sometimes I get email from girls in places like Finland, asking if they can use photos from the farm website for their fantasy-horse site. It's very good of them to ask permission.

Every time I go back there, [info]girlshorseclub strikes me as a very good-hearted and supportive sort of place--and I find many of the posts there genuinely moving, too. I'm really glad it's out there.

But yeah, the choices of horse breeds for the perfect horse are a little limited. :-)

It's probably about keeping the webcode as simple as possible.

It does look like a nice place, doesn't it? I wish I'd had something like it when I was 12. The only thing I wonder is whether those kids posting about their real-life horses are telling the truth or spinning a fantasy to win sympathy. We get them on real horse lists sometimes, and they don't seem to understand the distinction.

Another thing I note is how literate the site is. Proper spelling, correct sentence structure, and an overall sense that this is how we do things. I like that.

This made me laugh until I choked. Well done!

Clearly, my work here is done. :-)

Thanks from Girls Horse Club!
Sorry your Perfect Horse breed isn't available Janni. Maybe one day when the magical horse fairy comes along and grants the time/money to offer more. :)

Forgive the anonymous comment--just can't bring myself to open yet another account... Thanks again on behalf of GHC.

Re: Thanks from Girls Horse Club!
Thanks for maintaining such a great site! (And I definitely understand about not wanting too many accounts--I have too many myself--so anonymous comments are always welcome.)

I love my dream horse, actually. :-) (I learned to ride on a quarterhorse, and my first imaginary horse was silvery-white, so I got to combine the two.) It's [info]dancinghorse who couldn't find hers, but she raises Lippizzaners (which really are like dream horses), so I suspect she's happy enough with her real-life horses instead. :-)

Re: Thanks from Girls Horse Club!
Oh sorry dancinghorse. I'd offer to trade you a custom perfect horse for one of yours, but I don't think that would fly. A girl can always dream... ;)
