This is me being brave
I'm phobic about heights. Specifically, heights with steep surfaces and/or drops to both sides. (One could argue what I'm really scared of is not heights, but falling.)

So walking out under this arch, with drops to both sides and nothing remotely resembling a safe direction in which to fall, took a bit of courage for me.

Arches National Park

In other news that may or may not be related, I sent the raven book, with the shiny new working title Nevermore, off to my agent this week.

Onwards!

I've only admired Delicate Arch from a distance. I admire your courage.

I take it your trip ended before the shutdown started?

The week before--just barely in time!

I love how many pictures of Delicate Arch make it look like it sits on a flat expanse of slickrock. When the reality is so very much not.

Yeah--the pictures so do justice to some aspects of the arch, and so don't to others.

I am very, very impressed. I have the same fear and the same desire to be brave.

Until this post, I did not realize that the arch sits up so high. My hat is off to your courage! I think my knees would be knocking...

I share your fear of falling. You are a brave bear. And YAY for the raven book. That's excellent news!

Now I want to go walking around there too... :D

You're not afraid of heights, you're afraid of excess potential energy. If you carefully manage your potential energy, you'll be fine. (And I'm jealous of your trip.)
Janni Lee Simner: roadjanni on October 18th, 2013 12:01 am (UTC)
I'm just fine with potential energy when I can be confident it's not going to be released.

And when certain sorts of drops appear, my confidence about this point plummets. :-)

Brava! For both things
