It's best to spend election day ...

... on twitter
... on facebook
... working on my novel in an undisclosed internet-free location

(ETA: All the above options are, of course, for before and after voting, not instead of same!)

Advice which I am obviously not following . . .

The last one is what I'm going to do. My husband is an electoral politics geek, so he's having people over to watch the returns... and I'm going to absent myself lest I become a giant spiky ball of stress.

I do wish I could find this all entertaining instead of being stressed out because the fate of my country is on the line, you know?

Yeah, exactly. I think he manages his anxiety by geeking out in a mathematical sense (a la the xkcd strip from yesterday), but I can't detach enough to do that. So any following of the process that I do is done to a constant mental backdrop of OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD.

Yeah. That.

This election is particularly bad for that.

And I'm not even a novelist.

Twitter. You can pick your networks there. On FB you have to hang out with your preexisting friends and family.

The winner by a landslide!

I'm at work, working on web applications, so I really can't avoid the internet completely, but I voted as I would act if I were free to work on the novel.

I actually was doing final edits on a novel earlier today in an Internet-free location, until I had to come to work!
